Last Saturday (9th March 2024), I was privileged to be at Mummy Daisi’s 70th Anniversary Birthday Celebration..! As is typical with the gathering of “Believers”, I would say… ‘It Was Glorious’.
However, something caught my attention when the messenger of God came up to deliver the God-given message to the gathering…
Right from the start, it was clear that the opportunity to speak was not taken for granted because she enquired of God to find out what to say to His people. Now that is where I am going with this…
The message was titled:
FOOLISH VIRGINS…
She asked the Lord… “Why..?”; and God’s response was simple, “…there are many believers who are FOOLISH”.
While she pleaded with us not to be offended by this, she equally noted that it was Jesus Himself Who spoke of the WISE and FOOLISH VIRGINS… and believers today fall into one of these categories. It is sad to note that there seems to be more FOOLISH Virgins in the Church today, than those WISE.
While virtuous and endeavoring to keep Holy and Righteous as is required for those awaiting the appearing of the GROOM, the Savior Jesus Christ; we find ourselves falling short of certain basic, yet central requisites for Kingdom Access.
The speaker highlighted a few, but my concern stands with just one, since failure here is tantamount to failure everywhere else; while getting it right on this one point, is a *catalyst* for all round success in God’s pleasure…
Beloved, I am talking about THE WORD OF GOD.
Permit me to ask…
How much of the Word have you given attention to since you believed.
Let’s come down to the last two years. How much of the Word have you either read, studied or meditated upon..?
Let’s break it further…
Since this year began, how well have you done with keeping the Biblical Scriptures close to your heart..?
While we may argue that this is not all it takes to be a believer, we can agree that it does play a central role in the growth, development and maturity of the believer:
If we will not be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine, WE HAVE TO KNOW THE WORD..!
If we must rightly divide (correctly interpret) the scriptures, WE HAVE TO STUDY THE WORD..!
If we must grow in Knowledge and up into Maturity as earlier mentioned, WE MUST “CONSUME” THE WORD..!
Unfortunately, FOOLISH Virgins today are content with reading a verse or two a day… and many more go days unend without consulting the Word Of God.
When you require a believer to “read one chapter of the Bible a day”, it seems an uphill task because there is no discipline to give attention to scripture.
Meanwhile you spend hours watching movies, laughing at comedy skits, browsing content from one social media platform to the other. Continually seeking something to titillate your unending desire for the god called Pleasure..! But the living Word of God gets the back seat…
This is no speech against social media (as long as it is clean and pure before God); rather this is about getting our properties right.
Note this:
‘The one who gets your first and immediate attention; the one who gets your investment of time, energy and resources (causing you to disregard divine direction); is your object of worship’..!
You may feel your excuse is tenable; but there are people in worse situations and conditions than you are, with stricter schedules than you have, who are walking this path daily with God.
So ask yourself, “what will God say to me when I present this and that, or the other, as my reason for neglecting the Living Word of God..?”
Let’s not overly stretch this, I believe the point is made. Thankfully this is not Judgement Day..! We still have the opportunity to repent and return to choosing God above all else DAILY.
